Middle School is a wonderful time when students begin to realize what they're truly gifted at their abilities start to emerge their interest are passion start to emerge we make sure that they know that their child will be safe it's a protective environment we are there to support to ensure that their transition is a good one and it will continue to build each year they're here since first every decision every day and that's evidence through the work that we do here at Dexter wonderful school here at Dexter and they need to know about it they want to do that they want to be their best they're really curious about a lot of things are curious about the world we dedicate one day in the beginning to helping them adjusted to sixth grade so our very first day it's only six graders were we're teaching them to Dexter's wait I would tell 5th graders coming to Dexter do not worry I'm actually be sidon because there are a lot of fun things that they could do here we really work well together and very uniquely in this community to focus on the needs of students it's something we want to do is make sure that our kids have a well-rounded education and they're prepared what's your middle school but I think the thing that's impressed me the most has been the dedication of its teachers staff respond to any state of concern email a teacher she responds to be right away I love the special ed teacher she encourages my son to develop all his skills and his talents what I love most coming to work is the interaction that I have with not only my colleagues but with the students in middle school districts are still eager to learn to seeing also my student where is little light bulbs go on as they're learning our chorus and band teacher here at Dexter is exceptional and she's exposed a kids actually going to the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and seen plays and the kids really love that there's a tendency to be more engaged when students are young and less engaged as they grow older it almost needs to be the inverse the opposite weenie really engaged parents to work collaboratively with us so that we help our students become very successful go over her homework every night we take turns going to reviewing it to make sure she's done it correctly neatly a vital role and the education of our students we encourage them to be on campus volunteering participating in any athletic events going to our choir band performances as well as the art show that we put on the more we get our families on campus the more they feel connected my daily basis and I would love to see Middle School is about making connections with kids with the activities that we do with the classes that we offer as well as Athletics our Athletic program is important because some of our kids that Focus for them they come to school that's their connection also have the one to one iPad program the Arts are really an important outlet for the students to have the past three years on Dexter Middle School has been fortunate to receive grant funding for the LA Opera to do a residency in our course program extracurricular activities I participated our choir I'm currently in a speed this year I already joined the Dexter soccer team sports now accidents on my little one is real excited about trying out for different things or I would program is flourishing we are big in attending college fairs visiting colleges shortly hear our kids will be going to USC and attending a basketball game there is nothing like plane in the same community and neighborhood and having the support of those family and friends an all those different activities I really was surprised that they had here for the students and parents and it just everyone just felt very welcoming so I felt play belonged here the biggest way that our Band program and our course program extend to our community is in our performing we go out and participate in uptown Whittier activities yeah fortunately we have been blessed by a donor in our community Bruce McClelland and she has generously enabled our students to learn an instrument I think one of the most important things that we face in society is sometimes we feel like we're an outsider and we're sending our student into something that we entirely don't know and we need to break down barrier we need to make sure that parents feel very comfortable on our campuses what get to know the school learn what we're about see all the different classes that we have to offer are the wonderful things we're doing here at Dexter let them know to go visit the schools before we made this fine decision and even then when I brought her here I was still a little bit nervous but I really feel like we made the right decision my school there's just no place like a school it's a beautiful place to be
